Yesterday I quoted from John Piper’s message, “Boasting in the Cross,” about what real tragedy is. Here’s a video (sorry, best quality I could find) of Piper delivering this himself at Passion OneDay 2000. The part that I quoted begins around 3:50.

Great message yesterday Luke. It’s so easy to not want you life to count (and not realize that’s what you’re doing) – and just have a big shell collection. I was convicted. Looking forward to the next 4 weeks of this series.

Thank you for posting this! I don’t want a collection of shells but a collection of crowns to cast at the feet of my savior. I want my life to count as many victories for Christ.

I’ll turn 40 in two years and fear I’ll only have a shell collection at 80. I wish things like this convicted me enough to actually change–it’s as though I don’t know how to “find the time to change.” I often wonder what tragedy God might bring to me to shake me up–and will I respond with anger and hate or gratitude? How quickly my memory fades of what Jesus has already done for me. I’m grateful to Him that I know a man who has always pointed me to Jesus… Thanks Luke.
